Karmapa pays respects to Professor Sempa Dorje
On the recent full moon, the 13th of July 2022, Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, offered his respects to the kudung of his late teacher. ‘Genla’, Professor Sempa Dorje, had entered into Parinirvana on the 10th day of the lunar calendar and was still in a state of meditative absorption (thukdam) on the day of the full moon. Karmapa spent several hours meditating and praying by the side of the kudung.
He then met with the grieving members of Professor Sempa Dorje’s family, who had come to the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute (KIBI) in New Delhi, all the way from Kinnaur to spend time with the mortal remains of their beloved husband and father.
Karmapa bestowed blessings on the venerable monks who were performing the extensive puja of Buddha Amitabha in the main temple of KIBI, as well as to the residents.
Daily rituals will continue to be performed at KIBI for a duration of seven weeks (49 days) until the cremation of the kudung.
