Karmapa’s Singapore visit
"The Time is Ripe": eight days of Dharma events
From 26 Sept to 3 Oct 2014, Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, will visit Singapore to take part in a packed programme of Dharma events. This will be Karmapa’s fourth visit to Singapore, the first being in 1999, and the most recent in 2012.
Karmapa was invited by the Venerable Shangpa Rinpoche, Abbot of the Karma Kagyu Buddhist Center Singapore. The Center is in the process of being rebuilt, and on 1 Sept Karmapa will preside over the groundbreaking ceremony.
Inner Wealth forum
The programme opens with a public forum on the theme of Inner Wealth, one of Karmapa’s focus areas.
“In this material world in which we live, material wealth is also equally important. Why? Because if and when there are kind, generous, positive intentions, then in order to convey these positive intentions, material wealth and material resources become very valuable tools.”
Tribute to His Holiness Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche
After the passing of Shamar Rinpoche, all Karma Kagyu lamas and students are keeping prayers for the swift return of Shamar Rinpoche in mind. The Singapore monastic sangha and members of the public will join in a tribute to Shamar Rinpoche on 1 Oct. Rinpoche’s life work, especially his contribution to preserving the Karma Kagyu lineage, will be celebrated. Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, will lead special prayers and wishes. Karmapa will then bestow the empowerment of the Red Buddha of Limitless Light (Tib. Opagme, Skt. Amitabha). Shamar Rinpoche is an emanation of the Buddha of Limitless Light.
