Anniversary of Shamar Rinpoche’s birth

Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, shares the following message on the occasion of the birthday of his late teacher, His Holiness the 14th Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche.

New Delhi, 22 September 2021

Dear Dharma friends,

Today marks the birth anniversary of my late teacher, His Holiness the 14th Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche, according to the Western calendar.

Those of us who had the good fortune to meet Rinpoche during his lifetime have been deeply touched by his boundless compassion and infinite wisdom.

May we all remember the example and spiritual teachings of his birth, life, and passing, for they are in themselves teachings of great compassion and wisdom.

May we honour his legacy by practicing the Buddha Dharma, the very means to bring to fruition our own potential of infinite compassion and wisdom.

In particular, I would like to encourage all of you to devote yourselves to the practice of the late Rinpoche’s Guru Yoga, both today and again on 27 October, the date that marks his birthday according to the Tibetan calendar.
