10th anniversary of the parinirvana of Shamar Rinpoche
For the past ten years, an accumulation of the practice of Gyalwa Gyatso has been held annually at the Bodhi Path centre in Renchen Ulm, Germany to commemorate the passing into Parinirvana of His Holiness the 14th Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche on the 11th of June, 2014.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of Shamar Rinpoche’s Parinirvana, and on this special occasion Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, joined the practitioners who had assembled in large numbers in Renchen Ulm for the last day of the practice, which was held from the 7th to the 11th June.
Karmapa arrived in Renchen Ulm on the morning of the 10th of June and was offered a warm reception by his General Secretary Jigme Rinpoche, Gendun Rinchen, and a gathering of monks, nuns and lay practitioners.
On the next day Karmapa presided over the ritual of the Gyalwa Gyatso (a form of Chenresig, the wisdom aspect representing the enlightened compassion of all Buddhas), followed by the practice of the wisdom protector Mahakala.
In the evening Karmapa gave a short address to the many devotees gathered for the occasion. He talked about the value of the spiritual friend and the importance of appreciating the opportunity we have in this lifetime, and blessed all the practitioners present.
Karmapa departed Renchen Ulm on the morning of the 12th of June for Dhagpo Möhra, the next stop on his 2024 European tour.
